ONBOARDING RESOURCES FOR YOUR BUSINESS

Electricity account setup

Before your first invoice arrives, please review the setup options and preferences for doing business with us. This will give you time to take action on any preferences that require setup.

Set us up as a vendor in your accounts payable system

Download our W-9 form to add Direct Energy Business as a vendor to your A/P system. This will help ensure smoother bill pay. Instructions for how to use our W-9 are on page 1 of the document.

Submit your tax-exempt status (if applicable)

If you meet the specific requirements of your state/comptroller, you may be exempt from paying certain taxes on your energy supply. Check for the state-specific documentation that you’ll need to provide to us to ensure we set up your accounts correctly for exemption(s). It’s important to do this as soon as possible prior to service start. Without the required proof, your accounts will have the required state and local taxes applied until we receive the documentation.

Customize how your accounts are billed (optional)

We automatically set up your accounts to be billed individually out of our billing system. That means that you'll receive one invoice per account/site. If this is not your preference, please call us at 888.925.9115 or
download and complete the form  to aggregate (or consolidate) multiple accounts on one invoice. We allow up to 50 accounts per invoice. As a reminder, when you are billed by us that typically means you receive an invoice for distribution charges from your local utility, in addition to your invoice from us for your supply charges. Only in a few select markets do we have the option of including the utility’s distribution charges on our invoice so that you receive one invoice for everything.

Customize how you receive your bill (optional)

Your invoices are automatically set up to be mailed to you at the billing address you provided during the contracting process. If you would prefer to go paperless, you can set this up via our online customer portal, MyAccount (see below for access information). Here you can customize the alternate manner you’d like to receive your invoice, which includes email notification that your invoice is ready to view in MyAccount and/or email with your invoice attached. You can also update your billing address if it is changing. If you have any other special or customized billing request, like EDI or e-bill, please contact us at 888.925.9115 to make arrangements.

Review your payment methods

Choose your payment method from our available options and download/complete/submit any necessary setup forms. Our online/mail options don’t require setup and can be used at will when you receive your invoice.

  • Online payments: Log in to MyAccount (see below for access information) to make a payment at any time or to set your account(s) up for AutoPay using a bank account. Setting up and executing one-time or recurring payments is simple but if you need any help or have questions, check our FAQs for step-by-step instructions.
  • Electronic Funds Transfer: If you do not wish to make/setup one-time or recurring payments via our online portal using your bank account, you can set up electronic funds transfer through your bank. Download the instructions and get started.
  • Direct Debit/Auto Pay: If you do not wish to set up recurring payments via our online customer portal using your bank account, you can provide authorization for us to automatically debit your account each month by
    completing the following form.
  • Mail: Detach the remittance slip from your invoice and enclose it with your check or money order in the envelope provided with your invoice (please ensure that our payment address is showing through the window). If you lose your return envelope, the remittance addresses are:

Set up access to MyAccount

MyAccount is our online customer portal where you can access your contract and invoices, pay your bills, set up automatic payments, access various forms for making changes during your term, set alerts for pricing and usage, and view and run reports so you can closely manage your energy usage and spend. Accessing MyAccount for the first time is easy — you’ll simply need your account number from your electricity invoice, along with the zip code associated with your billing address. Our self-registration makes it easy to gain access as soon as you receive your first invoice. Keep in mind that you won’t have a lot to see initially until you’ve had a few months’ worth of usage and invoices.
