What’s in a Name?
We are often asked about our name — everything from “what does NRG stand for” to “what’s the meaning of “Reliant, an NRG company” to “what are those little plus signs in your logo?”
Perhaps the most important thing for any customer to know is that whether it’s Reliant or NRG they’re benefitting from the stability and unique perspective of an industry leader. Our position as both a generator and retailer of electricity provides an integrated business model that serves us and our customers well. We understand power from every angle — generation, regulatory, capacity, energy markets — and can transfer that knowledge into products, solutions, and trusted advice for residential and commercial customers of all types and sizes.
For businesses, that means not only an energy plan recommended and tailored to their needs, but also one that’s supported by a dedicated account rep, a 24/7 customer transaction desk, and an online portal where they can learn about and manage their energy, intuitively and conveniently.
Looking at an even bigger picture, our knowledge of power can be the foundation of a larger and more integrated solution — for example, one that combines on-site backup generation with the expertise to manage the power it produces and turn it into a market asset, delivering reliability and savings.
For the record, business customers in the Northeast will know us as NRG, our retail brand in states like New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Customers in Texas will likely know us as Reliant, our retail brand in the ERCOT market.
In the end, whether you’re served by NRG or Reliant, what’s most important is receiving the energy you need, when you need it, packaged in a way that meets all your goals.
