Human Resources becomes Talent
People are our power
Human Resources becomes Talent
Since 2016, I have had the pleasure of overseeing NRG’s Human Resources (HR) department, and I am extremely proud of the team we have built and the great work we continue to accomplish together. Like NRG’s new approach to power, our approach has also pivoted to better support the needs of our business and workforce. I’m happy to share that the Human Resources department is now known as Talent.
Though this may seem like a simple name change, for us it’s so much more. This change is indicative of the larger culture shift at NRG — a change in perspective and approach that highlights the talented employees driving our success and emphasizes the critical work our team does to support and empower our people as they navigate their careers.
We see Talent as our mandate—the role we play in transforming NRG into a modern consumer services company. Beyond adopting the name Talent for our group, we have also reorganized our department to better align with the needs of our workforce. We are focused on hiring, supporting, developing, and rewarding our people in ways that resonate with the employees of today and the future.
Talent now boasts four focused groups that are keenly dedicated to meeting the needs of our people.
First, we have the Total Rewards team, which will deliver our compensation and benefits programs in a consistent and unified manner. They will oversee the whole picture of how our employees utilize their benefits and how our programs can best reward and support an engaged workforce. They, with the help of the internal project management team, will also support the implementation of new initiatives across the department.
Our Talent Acquisition, Development, and Diversity team will focus on sourcing and hiring outstanding and diverse talent as well as supporting the growth and development of our existing workforce. This team is dedicated to empowering our people in a way that affords them individual success while contributing to the health and growth of our organization. These efforts will be conducted through a lens of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), ensuring we have a workforce that reflects our customers and communities while championing our employees’ individuality.
The Talent Operations team will be responsible for the systems that enable the service delivery of programs and digital services. The team will increase access to information and digital tools to enable employees to better manage their time at NRG. They will also be responsible for creating dashboards that will allow the team to effectively measure how we can best support our people.
Lastly, our Talent Business Partners team will work directly with employees and business leaders to support their people-related needs. This will include everything from organizational design, succession planning, performance discussions, promotions, management coaching, and answering any policy questions.
These changes reflect the evolution of our company and its workforce needs. With this restructure, we are excited and committed to doing everything we can to support our employees. I am excited to continue to lead this amazing group of people through this next phase of growth.
