NRG at a Glance
Quarter 2, 2024
When it comes to energy, there’s always something new. The same is true at NRG, where it’s common to see great stories about our companies, our communities, and our culture. This quarterly newsletter brings all those stories together so you can follow along with us.
Earlier this year, Rasesh Patel was named President of NRG Consumer, overseeing Smart Home and Home Energy. Prior to his new role, Rasesh served as Executive Vice President of Smart Home and President of Vivint.
In June, NRG submitted the first of three loan applications to the Texas Energy Fund (TEF) to develop 1,600 MW of new quick-start natural gas power generation in ERCOT. Timely approval will enable NRG to begin construction on two of the three facilities as early as October 2024.
At the beginning of June, we celebrated 75 years at our Greens Bayou power plant in Houston, Texas. Congratulations to everyone who’s helped support the region’s energy needs for more than seven decades.
EVP of NRG Business, Rob Gaudette shared his thoughts on why a good supply mix is critical for powering our path toward the energy transition while, at the same time, meeting the demands of the modern grid.
During her Earth Month remarks, NRG Chief Sustainability Officer, Lynda Clemmons discussed where things currently stand in the energy transition and how customers have a real opportunity to become an active participant in the energy future.
At GreenBiz ’24, Manager of Sustainability Consulting & Senior Sustainability Advisor, Michael Schwebel sat down to talk about a few of the hurdles facing the energy industry and available pathways toward a more sustainable future.
In April, we celebrated our valued C&I demand response customers and their commitment to creating a brighter, more sustainable future. The DR Customer Recognition Program recognizes their achievements in Longevity, 100% Program Goals, and Outstanding Customer categories.
This quarter, we kicked off Culture in Focus, a series illuminating NRG’s unique workplace culture via our greatest asset, our people. The first installment featured EVP and CFO, Bruce Chung. Get to know him, his love for NRG, and why he’s enthusiastic about the future.
We celebrated Mother’s Day and Father’s Day speaking to a handful of great NRG moms and dads, along with their talented (and hilarious) kids. Their candidness about their parents’ job responsibilities, teamwork, and superpowers make these Culture in Focus videos a must-watch.
Earlier this year, NRG was awarded a 4-Star Employer Award from VETS Indexes for our continued support of U.S. military veterans. With this award, NRG is now among the top employers in the U.S. when it comes to recruiting, hiring, retaining, and developing veterans.
The NRG Impact Awards recognize our outstanding teammates who dedicate their time and passion to making a difference in the communities where they live and work. Award winners exemplify our belief that every action can contribute to a larger, positive change.
Reliant is keeping the safety and comfort of its customers and the community top of mind this summer. In partnership with local health departments, city governments, and nonprofits, Reliant has opened 48 Beat the Heat cooling centers, provided $200 bill credits, and more.
The Dallas Cowboys and Reliant knocked it out of the park earlier this spring, raising more than $145,000 for 23 North Texas nonprofits at the 11th annual Reliant Home Run Derby. Since 2013, the event has raised $984,000 in total community impact.
For 20 years, NRG’s cycling team has come together to ride in the Texas MS 150 to raise funds for the research, treatment, and support for those affected by multiple sclerosis. This year, our team exceeded their goal, collecting more than $70,000 in donations.
This spring, Boston Children’s Hospital unveiled a bridge beam with NRG’s name on it in recognition of our ongoing support to their facility. Since 2017, NRG has raised over $1.4 million for the hospital’s Every Child Fund.
