NRG is celebrating the sixth year of our Demand Response Customer Recognition program — a milestone that reflects not just continuity, but the growing importance of active collaboration in how we power our communities.
As electricity demand continues to evolve — particularly with the rapid growth of data centers and other high-load operations — ensuring reliable power requires more than simply adding generation. It calls for smarter, more flexible ways to manage demand in real time. That’s where demand response (DR) comes in, and where our Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers can play an active role in a vital collaboration.
Essentially, DR is a shared commitment to reliability. By temporarily reducing or shifting energy use during periods of peak demand, participating customers help balance the grid when it’s under the most pressure.
This curtailment helps avoid brownouts, reduces emissions, and creates space for the system to operate as efficiently as possible. Collectively, our DR participants provide enough capacity to power millions of homes and businesses through periods of peak demand, demonstrating the meaningful impact of hands-on load management in today’s busy energy landscape.
Our participants look like the communities they serve — school districts, hospitals, factories, restaurants, local government offices, and more. These organizations understand both the operational value and the broader responsibility of flexible energy use: to get their jobs done while supporting their neighbors.
Through DR, they advance their own energy and cost-reduction goals while contributing to a more stable, equitable power supply for the communities they’re rooted in. And NRG is with them every step of the way, supporting this effort with timely, informative communications, real-time tracking, and personalized dashboards that give them control and confidence in their decisions.
In this year’s recognition, we are proud to honor 205 customers across three inclusive categories.
What better way to celebrate newcomers who took the plunge into DR than by highlighting those who met or exceeded 100% of their custom reduction goals in their first year of participation? This year we honored 57 customers in this category for showing how impactful this program can be from the start.
Our three winning customers in this category go above and beyond in their commitment to demand reduction. Their hands-on involvement in daily load management and ongoing efficiency initiatives sets a high bar for forward-looking sustainability.
While our DR Recognition program is relatively new, our demand reduction efforts are not. With this year’s cohort of 145 customers recognized in the Longevity category, we are saluting DR participants who have been engaged with curtailment and load management programs for 10, 15, and 20 years. Their unwavering commitment to demand response — and their ongoing collaboration with NRG — exemplifies responsible, future-forward energy management.
Demand Response is NRG’s program, but you — our customers — make the magic happen. We’re inspired by all your efforts, and we want to thank you for your continued engagement.
