NRG Employees Volunteer in Support of Winter Storm Relief

As Texas recovers from the effects of Winter Storm Uri, our employees are volunteering with non-profit organizations to meet the immediate needs of the many Texans who were impacted by the storm.

As a company who calls Texas home—and whose employees, customers, and communities were impacted by Winter Storm Uri—NRG and, its subsidiary, Reliant, have been on the ground in support of our fellow Texans. Together with established community partners such as the Houston Food Bank and the We are all Human Foundation (WAAH)—who are providing volunteer opportunities that make an impact—our team is lending a hand to bring relief to those in need.

On Tuesday, at the Houston Food Bank’s Neighborhood Food Drive, our employees joined nearly 120 volunteers, who worked together to distribute 250,000 meals to more than 3,500 cars at the drive-thru event held at NRG Stadium.

On Thursday and Friday, a number of employees volunteered at WAAH’s Texas relief events. Held in Dallas and Pasadena, Texas, volunteers distributed kits and care packages to hundreds of impacted families and community members.

Elise Luna-Contreras, Analyst, positiveNRG, talked about her time at the Pasadena event, “Volunteering with teams from WAAH and NRG to serve this community was particularly meaningful for me as I grew up very close to here. I am proud that through collaboration and a hard day’s work we were able to make an impact and provide some relief to good people during this time of need.”

For those looking for additional ways to provide support in this difficult time, NRG and Reliant are amplifying the important work and resources available from SBP (formerly St. Bernard Project), a non-profit dedicated to providing help and tools focused on disaster relief, rebuilding and recovery.

We have stood with our neighbors through tough times and we will always be there to lend a helping hand. Our employees and our organization will continue to serve in the coming weeks as we work towards recovery, together.
