Reliant Offers Texans Summer Relief with Beat the Heat Center Locations, Energy Assistance Programs

–Decade of Support Provides Nearly $9 Million in Energy Assistance to Customers–

With the Summer Solstice marking the official start of the Texas summer, Reliant continues its commitment to local communities with a variety of energy assistance programs. The Reliant Beat the Heat Center locations in Houston, Dallas and Corpus Christi are open to provide area residents relief from summer’s high temperatures, along with bill payment assistance and flexible payment options for customers. Since 2005, Reliant has contributed nearly $9 million through its CARE (Community Assistance by Reliant Energy) program for Texans who need help with summer electricity costs.

“For a decade now, Reliant has provided energy assistance for Texas communities. For our customers, we want you to know you can count on us and that we’ve got your back,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president of NRG Retail and Reliant. “The summer months are a time when many Texans need assistance, and working together with local officials, we will make sure they get support and relief from the heat. From our Beat the Heat Center locations all the way to financial assistance on electricity, Reliant consistently serves the communities where our customers live and work.”

The 2015 Beat the Heat Center locations are open through October 2. Each location offers air-conditioned spaces, entertainment with games and light snacks and water, and select sites will provide children opportunities to learn more about energy. This is Reliant’s tenth year supporting center locations in Houston and sixth consecutive year in Dallas and Corpus Christi.

In addition to the Beat the Heat Center locations, other energy assistance programs and innovative electricity plans are available, including:

• Nearly $750,000 in Reliant contributions to social services agencies available to assist seniors and low-income residential customers with paying their electricity bills through the CARE program, along with payment extensions and deferred payment plans.
• Average billing to help consumers manage payments during the hottest months, and dedicated Reliant customer service agents available to help individuals identify social agencies that can provide assistance with electricity bills.
• The Reliant Home Energy Checkup for customers to receive a free evaluation of their home’s energy efficiency and recommendations for improvement.
• The Reliant Predictable 12 plan that lets customers pay the exact same amount for electricity every month, with no surprises.
• The Reliant Conservation^SM plan that rewards customers for conserving energy with a lower energy charge for the first 1,000 kWh used.
