Rooted in the environment

INVESTING IN THE ENVIRONMENT

At NRG, environmental conservation is an essential initiative across our organization. In September 2019, we proudly announced the deepening of our already leading, scientific-based carbon-reduction targets. Our goals are to reduce emissions 50% by 2025 on the way to net-zero by 2050, from a 2014 base year. Our demand response program speaks to this environmental awareness — by reducing your environmental footprint while also de-stressing the grid.

Giving back with NRG GreenRoots

To thank our first-time customers for their participation in the demand response program, we launched GreenRoots in 2008 — an appreciation program that recognizes customers by contributing on their behalf to an environmental initiative.

We’ve partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 10 trees for each customer in Superior National Forest, Minnesota. Together, we are restoring forests, combating climate change, enriching lives, and impacting communities worldwide.

Arbor Day Foundation

For nearly 50 years, The Arbor Day Foundation has been at the forefront of environmentalism. By involving communities, companies, and corporations, they have helped plant more than 50 million trees around the world.
